Post 10 was chartered by National Headquarters on May 16, 1932 and recently celebrated its 85th birthday. The post was organized by 40 charter members who named it the Business & Professional Men’s Post 10. Fifty years later, in 1982, the name was changed by resolution to Business & Professional Post 10 to reflect the diverse group of veterans in the post.
We love being part of our nation's premier veteran-support organization, and we are proud of each of our member's service to this great nation. The hallmark of our post, however, is our involvement in community and veteran-support activities. We serve others because we served.

Boys State

In 2023, our post sponsored 25 young men to attend this fantastic program from the San Antonio Area. This includes candidates from Reagan High School, Johnson High School, Great Hearts Northern Oaks, Pieper High School, Churchill High School, Antonian High School, and San Antonio Christian School.
In 1967, Post 10 sponsored Alan L. Keyes, who that year won the National Oratorical Scholarship Contest and was voted President of Boys Nation. As an adult, Mr. Keyes completed his PhD in government affairs from Harvard University, served as a diplomat in the US Foreign Service, and was a candidate for President of the United States.
"Started in 1935, American Legion Boys State is among the most respected and selective educational programs of government instruction for upcoming high school seniors. It is a participatory program where each student becomes a part of the operation of his local, county, and state government."
"The American Legion Auxiliary sponsors a similar program for young women called Girls State."
"At American Legion Boys State, participants are exposed to the rights and privileges, the duties and the responsibilities, of a franchised citizen. The training is objective and practical, with city, county, and state governments operated by the students elected to the various offices."

Oratorical Contest

One of our competitors, Gloria K. from Ronald Reagan High School is the 2022 and 2023 District Champion and Division Runner Up.
Making this contest available to local high schools, we are proud to provide a means for young orators to display their acumen and excellence in public speaking. Each year, we evaluate competitors from Johnson High School, Reagan High School, Antonian High School, Churchill High School, and San Antonio Christian School.
"The American Legion Oratorical Contest exists to develop deeper knowledge and appreciation for the U.S. Constitution among high school students. Since 1938, the program has presented participants with an academic speaking challenge that teaches important leadership qualities, the history of our nation’s laws, the ability to think and speak clearly, and an understanding of the duties, responsibilities, rights and privileges of American citizenship." Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery Roll Call

Beginning at 0800 on Wednesday, May 19, 2010, members of Post 10 and other Legionnaires in the 20th District began reading the names of over 76,000 veterans who were interred within the hallowed grounds of the Ft. Sam Houston National Cemetery. The reading concluded at 1200, Sunday May 22.
This signified the beginning of an annual tradition. Now, on the Saturday before Memorial Day each year, the names of veterans interred within the previous 12 months are read. All readings take place at one of the shelters at the cemetery, and we are honored to participate in this wonderful tradition.
