CALL TO ORDER: The Membership Meeting was called to order at 0809 by Commander Hector Cavazos. It was held at Las Sabrositas Restaurant, 19141 Stone Oak Pkwy, San Antonio, TX 78258. ATTENDANCE: 18 members in good standing and 1 guest were present. Attending the meeting for the first time was Edwin Torres, a member of Post 102, the Virgin Islands. A quorum was declared. OPENING CEREMONIES: (1) The Colors were posted and recognized. (2) Chaplain Jim Noel delivered the opening prayer. (3) Sgt-at-Arms Nick Benedetto posted the POW/MIA flag on the empty chair. (4) “The Pledge of Allegiance” followed by “The American Legion Preamble” were recited in unison. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS MEETING: The reading of the minutes for the previous meeting was waived by motion and approval; absent of any discussion or corrections. COMMITTEE REPORTS: Finance: Richard Bowser, Finance Officer ([email protected]) A copy of the report was distributed to all members present at the meeting. As of Oct 31, 2017, total cash in savings, money market, & checking was $8,663.36. Restricted funds (Boys State) totaled $250.00. The report was approved as read by motion, subject to annual audit. Membership: Tom Aslakson, Adjutant ([email protected]) Post membership is at 161, or 65% of goal 249. We have met the Department benchmark of 65% for the month of November. Included are 33 Paid-Up-For-Life members and 48 that renewed online. Americanism: Robert Masten, Chair ([email protected]) Post level Oratorical Contests will begin Dec 6 with Reagan H.S., followed by Churchill, then Johnson. Boys State will kick-off in Jan 2018. JROTC medals will be awarded in Apr & May 2018. Veterans Affairs & Rehabilitation: Rufus Allen, Service Officer ([email protected]) The Service Officer was excused from attending. No report filed. SPEAKER: George Merkle spoke about the pros and cons of creating a Post website or Facebook account. The latter was voted on, so George will be managing a Facebook account for Post 10. SICK CALL: Tom Ullmann under medical care. Rufus Allen’s wife was ill. Wishing them a quick recovery. POST EVERLASTING: None reported. UNFINISHED BUSINESS: The Dept Time Capsule. The 100th Legion Anniversary Coin was passed by Congress. I NEW BUSINESS: (a) Nick Benedetto provided an update on The Veterans Day Parade. (b) Members were urged to go to military.com for Veterans Day specials. (c) John Courage, District 9 Councilman, will ride with us in the parade. (d) The 20th Dist Christmas party will be held Sat, Dec 9 at Post 593 at 7 pm. (e) Dist Cmdr Al Alford requested and the membership approved $100 to assist a veteran in distress. (f) The Post monthly meeting date was change to the 1st Sat of each month staring Jan 2018, by vote of the membership. (g) A ‘Joint Homecoming’ by Dept will be held Sat, Nov 18, in Bryan, TX (h) A happy Thanksgiving was wished to all & their families.. FOR THE GOOD OF THE LEGION: Aurelio Valdez presented the Post with a ‘Veterans Planning Guide’. CLOSING CEREMONIES: (1) The Colors were retired with a final salute. (2) Chaplain Jim Noel delivered the Closing Prayer. (3) Sgt-at-Arms nick Benedetto recovered the POW/MIA Flag from the empty chair.
